Russel Consolidates Facilities

Russel Metals Inc. will combine its Ontario long products operations into a single facility. The Canadian service center company will move its structural steel business to its Cambridge facility and then close its Port Robinson facility.

"The decision to close a location is never easy as it impacts long service employees,” says Brian Hedges, president and CEO. “The expansion at the Cambridge branch allows us to fulfill our commitment to provide better service to our customers and rationalize, as needed, our operations in Ontario."

The expansion at the Cambridge facility will cost approximately $6 million, but will help Russell reduce operating costs. The decision affects 80 employees at its Port Robinson location; 40 will be hired for the expansion in Cambridge.
