Steel, Aluminum Shipments Rise at Double-Digit Rates:
March shipments of both steel and aluminum products from service centers in the United States and Canada rose at double-digit rates from year-ago volume, according to the latest Metals Activity Report from the Metals Service Center Institute, Rolling Meadows, Ill. Inventories of both metals in both nations rose slightly.
Feralloy President Roger Sippey Retires:
Roger B. Sippey has retired from Feralloy Corp. after 42 years with the Chicago-based service center company. Sippey has served as president and CEO of the company, now a subsidiary of Reliance Steel & Aluminum Co., since 2007. Carlos M. Rodriguez-Borjas has assumed the roles of president and chief operating officer.
Horizon Acquires MC Steel:
Horizon Steel has announced an expansion of its Illinois operations through the acquisition of the former MC Steel Co.’s equipment and facility in Wheeling, Ill.
Lockheed Martin Extends JSF Deal with Castle:
A.M. Castle & Co., Franklin Park, Ill., will enter a six-year contract extension with Lockheed Martin for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program. The contract extension is subject to a purchase order being issued by Lockheed Martin. It would extend Castle's current contract through 2016 for the supply of aluminum plate and various value-added processing and collaborative supply chain management services.
Copper, Brass Shipments Climbing:
Copper and brass shipments continued to rally in March. Total shipments were up about 13.6 percent from February 2010 and 14.3 percent over March 2009, according to the Copper and Brass Servicenter Association, Overland Park, Kansas. This trend is in line with what the manufacturing and metals markets are experiencing overall, CBSA reports.
