Red Metal Imports, Exports Rise in August
 
U.S. imports and exports of brass mill products increased in August, compared with August 2012, reports the Washington-based Copper and Brass Fabricators Council. Imports of brass mill products totaled 43.1 million pounds in August, an increase of 9.1 percent, while exports increased 4.4 percent to 21.8 million pounds.

For the year to date, imports of brass mill products totaled 334.3 million pounds, down 1.1 percent. Exports through August were up 1.0 percent to 167.5 million pounds.

Mexico was the leading destination for U.S. exports of brass mill products in August at 7.4 million pounds, followed by Canada at 6.3 million pounds, South Korea at 2.4 million pounds, Saudi Arabia at 836,807 pounds and China at 829,688 pounds.

Imports from Germany totaled 10.0 million pounds, followed by South Korea at 7.3 million pounds, Mexico at 4.1 million pounds, Canada at 3.9 million pounds and Peru at 2.4 million pounds.

Imports of all sheet, strip, plate and foil products totaled 14.0 million pounds, while exports of those products totaled 10.0 million pounds. Imports of all pipe and tube products totaled 13.8 million pounds, while pipe and tube exports totaled 4.1 million pounds. Imports of all profiles, rods and bars totaled 11.8 million pounds, while exports totaled 5.7 million tons.
