Management Changes at Alro Steel

Alro Steel Corp., Jackson, Mich., has made several management changes, including the promotion of David Schmidt to president and chief operating officer, effective Jan. 1. Schmidt replaces Mark Alyea, who assumes the role of president emeritus.

Schmidt is in his 25th year with Alro and has held many positions, including sales, general manager, vice president of corporate purchasing and, since 2004, executive vice president.

Alyea joined Alro in 1981 and served as president since 1988. During his tenure, he contributed substantially to Alro's growth and success, the company says.

Steve Laten was named executive vice president, in addition to his current role as chief financial officer. Laten has been Alro’s CFO since 1997.

Randy Glick, formerly vice president of operations, has been named senior vice president. Glick has held many different roles with Alro since 1981.

Al Glick will remain as the company's chairman and chief executive officer.

Alro Steel distributes metals, industrial supplies and plastics under the following company names: Alro Steel, Alro Metals Service Center, Alro Metals Plus, Alro Industrial Supplies and Alro Plastics. Founded by Alvin and Robert Glick in 1948, Alro has over 60 locations in 12 states. It was ranked by Metal Center News as the No. 11 service center in North America last year with 2012 revenues of $1.35 billion.
