Brass Mill Imports, Exports Increase in 2013

U.S. imports and exports of brass mill products both increased in 2013, compared to the previous year, reports the Copper and Brass Fabricators Council in Washington. For the full year, imports inched up by 0.7 percent to 491.9 million pounds, while exports increased 2.1 percent to 261.0 million pounds.

In December, imports increased 5.9 percent to 39.4 million pounds. December exports of 17.8 million pounds were up 8.6 percent from the same month in 2012.

Mexico was the leading destination for U.S. exports in December at 5.9 million pounds, followed by Canada at 4.5 million pounds, South Korea at 2.3 million pounds, China at 1.2 million pounds and Hong Kong at 829,199 pounds.

Imports from Germany totaled 8.5 million pounds, followed by South Korea at 6.0 million pounds, Mexico at 4.9 million pounds, Canada at 3.1 million pounds and China at 3.1 million pounds.

Imports of all sheet, strip, plate and foil products totaled 12.7 million pounds, while exports of those products totaled 9.1 million pounds. Imports of all pipe and tube products totaled 12.7 million pounds, while pipe and tube exports totaled 3.1 million pounds. Imports of all profiles, rods and bars totaled 11.1 million pounds, while exports totaled 5.4 million pounds.
