New Star Acquires Material Sciences

New Star Metals, Burr Ridge, Ill., has acquired Material Sciences Corp., a global manufacturer of acoustical products used in brakes, body panels and engine components. MSC also specializes in electro-galvanizing and coil coating of flat-rolled steel and aluminum, providing products to customers in the automotive, construction, appliance and lighting industries.

"MSC has great facilities, innovative products and a very talented workforce," says Patrick Murley, CEO of New Star Metals. "The addition of MSC to our company enhances our strategy to participate in the lightweighting of automobiles to meet pending CAFE standards. With our ability to coat ultra-high strength steel and aluminum, as well as product laminates and composites, we have a unique product and services offering," says Mike Noble, chief commercial officer for New Star Metals.

Material Sciences will continue to operate under the MSC name after the transition.
