Obituary: Robert J. Brookes, Sr.
Robert J. Brookes, Sr., chairman of E. Jordan Brookes Co., Inc., and past president of the Copper & Brass Servicenter Association, died April 16 at the age of 90.
Mr. Brookes earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Stanford University. He served his country in WWII patrolling the South China Sea as a submarine officer. In 1945, he returned to Stanford for his master's degree, where he met and married Valentine McMillan. He brought Val back to Southern California where they made their permanent home and raised their three children, Daisy, Diane and Bob Jr.
In 1948, Mr. Brookes joined his father at E. Jordan Brookes Co., a distributor of industrial metals and plastics. He led the company as both president and CEO and was active in the red metals industry. He served as president of the Copper & Brass Servicenter Association from 1980-82. In 1979, his son joined the company, providing three generations of leadership. Bob Jr. followed in his footsteps, serving as CBSA president from 2001-2004.
"The CBSA community is devastated by Bob's passing," said Susan Avery, CBSA executive director. "Bob's integrity and strong influence on the copper and brass industry is well respected by CBSA members, and he will be missed dearly."
