New Facility Transforms Alro's Charlotte Operation

Customers will have a chance to see a very different Alro by attending an open house at the company's new Charlotte, N.C., facility from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17. The service center is located at 12933 Sam Neely Road in Charlotte.

The Michigan-based service center company moved into its new location in late 2013. The company previously operated out of a 40,000-square-foot facility before purchasing and remodeling the existing 170,000-square-foot building.

The more than four-fold increase in space has allowed Alro to transform its operation. The company formerly offered little more than bar sawing, but has added plasma burning capacity; aluminum plate sawing up to 10 inches thick; a half-inch carbon shear; rod, bar and sawing up to 20-inch rounds; and structural sawing with miter cutting capability.

The company's inventory levels have more than doubled with the move, says Scott Kraft, regional manager. Alro is now carrying square and rectangular tubing, angles, channels and beams, plus a full line of sheet product, including carbon, stainless, aluminum and galvanized, and carbon plate.

"We're a completely different player in this market than we were before," Kraft says.
