United Performance Metals has upgraded the offerings at its West Coast branch in La Mirada, Calif. The specialty steel and high-temperature alloy facility will now offer in-house shearing and slitting.

"It's important to support our growing West Coast customer base with material that can be quickly delivered," says Chris Weber, regional account manager. "In most cases, we are only a day or two away from anyone on the West Coast."

United Performance Metals established its first California branch in 2008 with a facility in Sante Fe Springs. The company outgrew the 13,000-square-foot space and moved to La Mirada in mid 2011. With 52,000 square feet of offices and equipment, the West Coast facility is well-positioned to take advantage of continued growth in the region, company officials say.

Annette Tiesman, executive vice president, says the addition of slitting in La Mirada places United Performance Metals in a better position to more quickly service customer needs. "We are happy with our current growth on the West Coast," Tiesman says. "Our goal is simple—have the correct inventory on the floor ready for immediate processing and delivery."

The new shear can handle material up to 120 inches. The slitter processes material up to 4,000 pounds, from 1.5 to 24 inches.
