U.S. imports and exports of brass mill products rose in February compared with the corresponding 2011 period, according to the Copper and Brass Fabricators Council, Washington, D.C.
Imports of brass mill products in February totaled 36.0 million pounds, up from 33.6 million in February 2011, an increase of 7.3 percent. Exports totaled 19.3 million pounds in February, up from 16.4 million in 2011, a 17.8 percent increase.
For the year to date through February, imports of brass mill products totaled 76.0 million pounds, up from 70.7 million pounds for the first two months of 2011, an increase of 7.6 percent. Exports through two months totaled 38.1 million, compared to 34.1 million in the same 2011 period, an increase of 11.8 percent.
Mexico was the leading destination for U.S. exports of brass mill products in February at 7.0 million pounds, followed by Canada at 6.8 million pounds, China at 950,846 pounds, Saudi Arabia at 716,905 pounds and South Korea at 526,573 pounds.
Imports from Germany in February totaled 7.3 million pounds, followed by Canada at 4.5 million pounds, South Korea at 4.3 million pounds, Mexico at 4.3 million pounds and China at 3.4 million pounds.
Imports of all copper and brass sheet, strip, plate and foil products totaled 11.1 million pounds, while exports of those products totaled 7.7 million pounds. Imports of all pipe and tube products totaled 11.8 million pounds, while pipe and tube exports totaled 5.0 million pounds.
