World Crude Steel Production Up in May
 
Crude steel production for the 65 countries reporting to the Brussels-based World Steel Association totaled 141 million metric tons in May, an increase of 2.2 percent compared to May 2013. The crude steel capacity utilization ratio for the 65 countries in May was 78.5 percent--0.7 of a percentage point lower than the previous year and 0.2 of a percentage point lower than the previous month.

The U.S. produced 7.5 million tons of crude steel in May, an increase of 1.4 percent. China's crude steel production for May hit 70.4 million tons, up 2.6 percent.
