Brass Imports Down, Exports Up in July
 
U.S. imports of brass mill products fell in July 2014, while exports rose compared to the corresponding 2013 period, reports the Copper and Brass Fabricators Council in Washington. Imports of brass mill products totaled 44.4 million pounds in July, a decrease of 2.5 percent, while exports increased 3.3 percent to 21.3 million pounds.

For the year to date through July, imports of brass mill products totaled 316.9 million pounds, an increase of 8.8 percent. Year-to-date exports declined 2 percent to 152.1 million pounds.

Mexico was the leading destination for U.S. exports of brass mill products in July at 8.8 million pounds, followed by Canada at 6.0 million pounds, South Korea at 1.7 million pounds, China at 671,578 pounds and Saudi Arabia at 418,354 pounds.

Imports from Germany in July 2014 totaled 9.9 million pounds, followed by South Korea at 7.6 million pounds, Mexico at 4.7 million pounds, Canada at 3.9 million pounds and China at 3.0 million pounds.

Imports of all sheet, strip, plate and foil products totaled 13.1 million pounds, while exports of those products totaled 9.5 million pounds. Imports of all pipe and tube products totaled 16.1 million pounds, while pipe and tube exports totaled 4.2 million pounds. Imports of all profiles, rods and bars totaled 11.5 million pounds, while exports totaled 6.6 million pounds.
