Brass Mill Imports Increase in August
 
Imports of brass mill products increased and exports fell in August, reports the Copper and Brass Fabricators Council in Washington. Imports of brass mill products totaled 44.7 million pounds, an increase of 3.9 percent, while exports declined 7.3 percent to 21.4 million pounds.

For the year to date through eight months, imports totaled 361.6 million pounds, an increase of 8.2 percent. Exports declined 2.7 percent to 178.3 million pounds.

Mexico was the leading destination for U.S. exports of brass mill products in August at 8.9 million pounds, followed by Canada at 5.4 million pounds, South Korea at 1.5 million pounds, China at 779,234 pounds and Hong Kong at 777,479 pounds.

Imports from Germany totaled 11.2 million pounds, followed by South Korea at 6.4 million pounds, Mexico at 4.8 million pounds, China at 4.2 million pounds, and Canada at 4.0 million pounds.

Imports of all sheet, strip, plate and foil products totaled 14.4 million pounds, while exports of those products totaled 9.6 million pounds. Imports of all pipe and tube products totaled 16.5 million pounds, while pipe and tube exports totaled 3.7 million pounds. Imports of all profiles, rods and bars totaled 10.9 million pounds, while exports totaled 6.4 million pounds.
