U.S. Steel Mill Shipments Decline in August
 
U.S. mills shipped 8.5 million tons of steel in August, a 0.1 percent decrease from the previous month, reports the Washington-based American Iron and Steel Institute. Shipments increased 1.7 percent from the same month in 2013.

For the year to date, steel shipments of 65.8 million tons were up 2.7 percent from last year. A comparison of August shipments to July shows hot-rolled sheet up 3.0 percent, hot-dipped galvanized sheet and strip up 1.0 percent, and cold-rolled sheet down 3.0 percent.
