Brass Mill Imports Continue to Increase
 
U.S. imports of brass mill products rose in October while exports fell, compared with October 2013, reports the Copper and Brass Fabricators Council in Washington. Imports totaled 45.7 million pounds, an increase of 9.1 percent, while exports declined 9.9 percent to 23.3 million pounds.

For the first 10 months of the year, red metal imports totaled 449.0 million pounds, an increase of 7.5 percent. Exports declined 2.5 percent to 215.2 million pounds.

Mexico was the leading destination for U.S. exports of brass mill products in October at 7.9 million pounds, followed by Canada at 5.3 million pounds, South Korea at 1.5 million pounds, China at 762,494 pounds and Hong Kong at 632,136 pounds.

Imports from Germany totaled 10.5 million pounds, followed by South Korea at 6.5 million pounds, Mexico at 5.3 million pounds, Canada at 4.0 million pounds and China at 3.7 million pounds.

Imports of all sheet, strip, plate and foil products totaled 14.4 million pounds, while exports of those products totaled 9.2 million pounds. Imports of all pipe and tube products totaled 14.6 million pounds, while pipe and tube exports totaled 3.8 million pounds. Imports of all profiles, rods and bars totaled 12.6 million pounds, while exports totaled 6.3 million pounds.
