Brass Imports Continue to Increase
 
Red metal imports continued to climb and exports kept falling in November, reports the Copper and Brass Fabricators Council, Washington. Imports of brass mill products totaled 38.2 million pounds during the month, an increase of 9.3 percent. Exports declined 7.5 percent to 21.0 million pounds.

For the year to date, imports of brass mill products totaled 487.2 million pounds, an increase of 7.7 percent. Exports were down 2.9 percent for the year to 234.7 million pounds.

Mexico was the leading destination of U.S. exports of brass mill products at 7.3 million pounds, followed by Canada at 5.2 million pounds, South Korea at 1.7 million pounds, Trinidad and Tobago at 997,011 pounds and China at 604,667 pounds.

Imports from Germany totaled 8.3 million pounds, followed by South Korea at 5.7 million pounds, Canada at 3.7 million pounds, Mexico at 4.2 million pounds and Peru at 2.4 million pounds.

Imports of all sheet, strip, plate and foil products totaled 12.2 million pounds, while exports of those products totaled 8.4 million pounds. Imports of all pipe and tube products totaled 12.5 million pounds, while pipe and tube exports totaled 3.2 million pounds. Imports of all profiles, rods and bars totaled 11.0 million pounds, while exports totaled 6.2 million pounds.
