U.S. Steel Mill Shipments Lag in February

U.S. steel mills shipped 6.9 million net tons in February, a decline of 10.8 percent from the previous month and down 9.1 percent from February 2014, reports the American Iron and Steel Institute in Washington. Shipments of 14.7 million tons for the first two months of 2015 were 5.3 percent behind the previous year.

A comparison of February shipments to the previous month shows the following changes: hot-rolled sheets, down 9 percent; cold-rolled sheets, down 9 percent; and hot-dipped galvanized sheets and strip, down 10 percent.
