Leeco Steel to Locate S.D. Facility in Brandon
Leeco Steel, Lisle, Ill., has finalized plans for its new distribution center in Brandon, S.D. The 58,000-square-foot facility will be located 13 miles east of Sioux Falls. Construction has begun on the building, which is on track to open in October.
The new fully enclosed, climate-controlled facility will house two 25-ton cranes and a 20-foot by 64-foot oxy fuel table, with the space to store 20,000 tons of steel plate. It has the capability to receive and ship via rail, and has easy access to major highways.
Leeco Steel’s decision to add a north central U.S. location was driven by customers and the markets, say company executives. They determined that establishing a distribution center would be the best way to serve the growing manufacturing sector in the region with more cost-effective supply-chain solutions, quicker delivery and overall customer service.
“Leeco Steel has been servicing this market through our Oshkosh, Wis., and Chicagoland locations for more than 20 years,” says Denton Nordhues, president and CEO of Leeco, a subsidiary of O’Neal Industries, Birmingham, Ala. “This facility in eastern South Dakota places our steel closer to where it needs to be and, therefore, eases the pressure on freight and allows us to get product to the end-user faster. We continually look for ways to best serve our customers, and establishing a stronger Midwest presence was the obvious decision to fulfill that mission.”
