Brass Mill Imports, Exports Decline in August

U.S. imports and exports of brass mill products declined in August compared with the corresponding 2014 period, reports the Washington-based Copper and Brass Fabricators Council. Imports of brass mill products totaled 38.1 million pounds, a decrease of 15 percent, while exports dipped 6.9 percent to 19.9 million pounds.

For the first eight months of the year, brass mill imports totaled 343.1 million pounds, a decrease of 5.1 percent. Year-to-date exports declined 2.3 percent to 169.6 million pounds.

Mexico was the leading destination for U.S. exports of brass mill products in August at 8.3 million pounds, followed by Canada at 4.9 million pounds, China at 962,925 pounds, Saudi Arabia at 691,321 pounds and Japan at 568,868 pounds.

Imports from Germany in August totaled 9.3 million pounds, followed by Mexico at 4.7 million pounds, South Korea at 4.6 million pounds, Canada at 4.0 million pounds and Peru at 2.2 million pounds.

August imports of all copper and brass sheet, strip, plate and foil products totaled 12.4 million pounds, while exports of those products totaled 7.4 million pounds. Imports of all pipe and tube products totaled 13.3 million pounds, while pipe and tube exports totaled 4.3 million pounds. Imports of all profiles, rods and bars totaled 9.5 million pounds, while exports totaled 5.8 million pounds.
