American Steel and Aluminum Buys Steel Service Center

Steel Service Center, Inc., a supplier of metal products in New England for more than 50 years, has been acquired by American Steel and Aluminum, LLC, of South Portland, Maine. The terms of the acquisition were undisclosed.

The Lewisville, Maine-based Steel Service Center has been owned and operated by the Roy Family since 1960. Bob Roy, Jr., the current owner, grew up in the business formally owned by his father Bob Roy, Sr. Steel Service has been a key supplier of metals to shipbuilders, paper makers, manufacturers and fabricators throughout the state of Maine.

Peter Brissette, general manager of American Steel and Aluminum, believes the acquisition will enhance his company’s ability to serve Maine’s industries. “It will allow us to expand the value-added side of our business because of the experienced employees and specialized equipment at Steel Service.”

Bob Roy, Jr., will assist American Steel and Aluminum with the transition, but will then spend more time with other business ventures.
