Leadership Changes at ArcelorMittal

ArcelorMittal announced a series of executive management changes coinciding with the retirement of industry veteran Lou Schorsch, who leaves the company in February. Schorsch, who joined the company in 2003 as CEO of Ispat Inland, was senior executive vice president for the global steelmaker.

"Since joining the company in 2003, Lou has been an integral member of our senior leadership team. With a keen intellect and deep understanding of the dynamics of our industry as a result of his experience in both consultancy and operational roles, he has been a strong leader who is held in high esteem by all who know and work with him,” says Lakshmi Mittal, group chairman and CEO.

ArcelorMittal will reorganize the management structure of its Americas business in 2016. Jim Baske will become executive vice president and CEO of ArcelorMittal North America, excluding the U.S. John Brett will become CEO of ArcelorMittal USA. Andy Harshaw, current CEO of ArcelorMittal USA, is retiring, but will remain with the company through March 31 to aid the transition.

Jefferson de Paula will remain CEO of South America Long and Benjamin Baptista will continue as CEO of South America Flat. Baske, Brett, de Paula and Baptista will all report to Mittal.

Additionally, Brian Aranha, vice president of global automotive and commercial coordination, will assume the roles of strategy, CTO, R&D, CCM and global automotive from Schorsch. He will be supported by David Clarke as head of strategy and chief technology officer, Greg Ludkovsky as head of R&D, and Brad Davey as head of global automotive.

Robrecht Himpe will be appointed chief executive of AM/NS Calvert, working with AM/NS Calvert President Chris Richards.
