Brass Mill Imports, Exports Behind 2014 Pace

U.S. imports and exports of brass mill products declined in November compared with the corresponding 2014 period, reports the Copper and Brass Fabricators Council in Washington. Imports of brass mill products totaled 33.8 million pounds, a decline of 11.5 percent. Exports declined 4.0 percent to 18.7 million pounds.

For the year, imports of brass mill products totaled 451.5 million pounds, a decrease of 7.3 percent. Exports decreased 3.1 percent to 227.5 million pounds.

Mexico was the leading destination for U.S. exports of brass mill products in November at 7.3 million pounds, followed by Canada at 4.9 million pounds, China at 842,095 pounds, Saudi Arabia at 471,582 pounds and Japan at 454,866 pounds.

Imports from Germany in November totaled 8.9 million pounds, followed by South Korea at 4.9 million pounds, Mexico at 3.8 million pounds, Canada at 3.5 million pounds, and Peru at 2.0 million pounds.

Imports of all copper and brass sheet, strip, plate and foil products totaled 11.6 million pounds, while exports of those products totaled 7.0 million pounds. Imports of all pipe and tube products totaled 11.2 million pounds, while pipe and tube exports totaled 3.6 million pounds. Imports of all profiles, rods and bars totaled 7.8 million pounds while exports totaled 5.7 million pounds.
