Red Metal Imports, Exports Dip

U.S. imports of brass mill products in January totaled 33.5 million pounds, a decline of 16.4 percent from the same month in 2015, reports the Copper and Brass Fabricators Council in Washington. Exports of brass mill products declined 11.8 percent to 20.3 million pounds.

Mexico was the leading destination for U.S. exports of brass mill products in January at 7.8 million pounds, followed by Canada at 4.9 million pounds, China at 592,224 pounds, United Arab Emirates at 447,920 pounds and Thailand at 413,528 pounds.

Imports from Germany in January totaled 7.2 million pounds, followed by South Korea at 4.7 million pounds, Mexico at 4.2 million pounds, Canada at 3.3 million pounds and China at 1.9 million pounds.

Imports of all sheet, strip, plate and foil products totaled 9.5 million pounds, while exports of those products totaled 6.7 million pounds. Imports of all pipe and tube products totaled 14.1 million pounds, while pipe and tube exports totaled 3.8 million pounds. Imports of all profiles, rods and bars totaled 7.0 million pounds, while exports totaled 5.5 million pounds.
