Brass Imports, Exports Up in February

U.S. imports and exports of brass mill products increased in February compared with the corresponding 2015 period, reports the Copper and Brass Fabricators Council in Washington. Imports of brass mill products totaled 34.3 million pounds, an increase of 1.0 percent compared with February 2015. The data indicates that exports increased 79 percent to 37.1 million pounds during the month, although an investigation has been initiated to determine if that figure is accurate.

For the year to date, imports of brass mill products totaled 67.8 million pounds, a decline of 9 percent. Exports, including the contested February data, totaled 41.1 million pounds, a 34 percent increase.

Mexico was the leading destination for U.S. exports of brass mill products in February at 25.3 million pounds, followed by Canada at 5.0 million pounds, China at 990,593 pounds, Saudi Arabia at 843,771 pounds, and Germany at 594,466 pounds.

Imports from Germany totaled 7.4 million pounds, followed by Mexico at 4.6 million pounds, South Korea at 4.2 million pounds, Canada at 3.8 million pounds and Vietnam at 2.7 million pounds.

Imports of all copper and brass sheet, strip, plate and foil products totaled 10.6 million pounds, while exports of those products totaled 7.9 million pounds. Imports of all pipe and tube products totaled 14.1 million pounds, while pipe and tube exports totaled 3.4 million pounds. Imports of all profiles, rods and bars totaled 6.8 million pounds, while exports totaled 23.3 million pounds.
