World Stainless Production Dips in 2015

Global stainless steel melt shop production declined 0.3 percent in 2015 to 41.5 million tons, reports the International Stainless Steel Forum, Brussels. Global production declined 1.0 percent during the fourth quarter.

In the Americas, stainless production declined 2.3 percent to 2.7 million tons. Fourth-quarter production declined 16.1 percent to 601,000 tons.

The largest decline in 2015 was in Central/Eastern Europe, where production fell 6.3 percent to 259,000 tons. Chinese production declined 0.6 percent to 21.6 million tons, and Western Europe/Africa experienced a decline of 0.7 percent to 7.5 million tons. The only area to show growth in 2015 was Asia, excluding China, which increased 1.4 percent at 9.5 million tons.
