USW Approves ArcelorMittal Deal

Members of the United Steelworkers have overwhelmingly ratified a new contract with ArcelorMittal. The new deal covers 14,000 hourly production, maintenance, office and technical workers at 15 of the company’s U.S. locations.

"We have settled our differences with management at the table, so together now we can focus on addressing the industry's real problems, such as global overcapacity and the unfair and often illegal foreign trade practices that depress prices, close plants and cost jobs," says USW President Leo Gerard.

The union’s previous agreement with ArcelorMittal expired Aug. 31, 2015. Work continued during negotiations for a new contract. The new pact runs through Sept. 1, 2018. The agreement follows labor deals reached already this year at U.S. Steel and Allegheny Technologies.
