Lex Holdings Opens Houston Facility

Lex South Steel has opened an operation in Houston, the newest service center for Lex Holdings Co. The new 30,000-square-foot operation inside a 115,000-square-foot manufacturing facility complements the company’s facilities in Bedford Park, Ill., and Los Angeles.

The new facility will offer hot-rolled, hot-rolled pickled and oiled, cold-rolled, galvanized, aluminum and stainless flat-rolled product. Lex South will operate a 72-inch slitter, which can run material from 0.022- to 0.375-inch thick. Additional processing equipment may be added as the company grows into the facility, executives say.

The facility is being opened to serve customers in Texas and Mexico. Additionally, since Lex South buys both domestic and foreign material, the Houston location provides access to material coming in from the gulf. “It’s a real natural fit for us,” says Bill Douglass, president of Lex South. “Geographically, it dovetails with our other facilities.”

Douglass says the company expects to move about 15,000 tons of material per month through the facility, with room to grow.
