Brass Mill Imports, Exports Up in August

U.S. imports and exports of brass mill products increased in August compared with the same month in 2015, reports the Copper and Brass Fabricators Council in Washington. Imports of 40.2 million pounds were up 5.5 percent from August 2015, while exports increased 5.0 percent to 20.9 million pounds.

Through the first eight months of the year, red metal imports declined by 8.5 percent to 313.8 million pounds. The validity of export figures for the year remains in question.

Mexico was the leading destination for U.S. exports of brass mill products in August at 8.8 million pounds, followed by Canada at 5.6 million pounds, China at 1.2 million pounds, Germany at 724,332 pounds and Japan at 490,781 pounds.

Imports from Germany totaled 9.7 million pounds, followed by Mexico at 4.8 million pounds, Canada at 3.9 million pounds, South Korea at 3.7 million pounds, and Vietnam at 3.0 million pounds.

Imports of all copper and brass sheet, strip, plate and foil products totaled 13.4 million pounds, while exports of those products totaled 8.2 million pounds. Imports of all pipe and tube products totaled 15.6 million pounds, while pipe and tube exports totaled 4.4 million pounds. Imports of all profiles, rods and bars totaled 8.0 million pounds, while exports totaled 6.2 million pounds.
