Intsel to Build New Facility in Denver

Triple-S Steel Supply will consolidate its two Denver operations into a single location in the city. The new 234,000-square-foot Intsel Steel location is larger than the combined space of the previous facilities.

The relocation was prompted by the desire for better rail access, says Sam Stein, financial analyst and project manager for Triple-S. Most of the operations’ equipment will be relocated with the move. The company also is adding a new automated racking system from Switzerland’s Fehr Lagerlogistik.

“It’s a more efficient way to store and retrieve our material. You tell the computer what order you want to pull, it pulls the right material. It knows where everything is stored inside the rack,” Stein says of the Honeycomb system from Fehr.

The company’s Denver locations offer cut-to-length and burning of flat products, as well as beams, plates and structural shapes. The locations had been doing business as R&S Steel/Intsel Steel West, but will operate under the Intsel name after the relocation.

Intsel broke ground on the $14.5 million project in October, and the new facility is expected to be operational this spring. The company will process and handle orders out of its existing locations until the move.
