U.S. Steel to Close Tube Mills

In response to the persistently challenging conditions in the oil and gas markets, U.S. Steel plans to permanently shut down mills at its Lorain, Ohio, and Lone Star, Texas, tubular facilities.

The company will close the Lorain Tubular No. 4 seamless mill, which was idled in April 2015, and the No. 1 Electric-Weld pipe mill at Lone Star, which was temporarily shut down in March. The company had previously informed union employees it was considering the decision.
