Steel Technologies Expanding Greenfield Facility in Smyrna

Steel Technologies LLC will expand its greenfield facility in Smyrna, Tenn., by 80,000 square feet. The expansion will house coil-fed laser blanking capabilities, an advanced combination of coil-fed automation and high-speed laser cutting for surface-sensitive metal blanking, the company claims.

Upon completion, the $36.6 million facility will total 163,000 square feet for steel and aluminum slitting, conventional configured blanking and coil-fed laser blanking. This second phase expansion includes a dual-head laser-blanking line from LaserCoil Technologies that will be operational in the first quarter of 2018.

“These capabilities will bring substantial flexibility and incredible value to our customer base,” says Randall Patterson, vice president of U.S. Operations. “We have been working closely with customers in the region to expand our capabilities in line with their future needs.”
