UPM Expands Edging Capabilities

United Performance Metals had made equipment changes at two of its facilities. UPM is an affiliate of O’Neal Industries, Birmingham, Ala.

At its Hamilton, Ohio, facility, UPM has installed new edging equipment. In conjunction with that move, the company is relocating the existing edging line and 12-inch slitting equipment to its West Coast branch in La Mirada, Calif. The changes allow for slitting and edging capabilities at both facilities.

“The additional edging capability in our West Coast facility complements the current slitting operations in that branch. Having edging capacity in multiple locations allows us to offer our customers shorter lead times and faster delivery, regardless of our customer’s geographic location,” says JJ Johnson, director of operations for the company.

The edging lines are capable of delivering a No. 1 round or No. 5 partial or full-square skived edge. It can also be customized to minimize camber for customers who require the tightest tolerance, says Roger Haire, operations manager.
