Brass Mill Imports, Exports Ahead of 2016 Pace

U.S. imports and exports of brass mill products increased in August compared with the corresponding 2016 period, reports the Copper and Brass Fabricators Council, Washington. Imports increased 5.6 percent to 42.5 million pounds, while exports climbed 9.4 percent to 20.9 million pounds.

For the year to date, imports of brass mill products totaled 332.1 million pounds, an increase of 5.8 percent. Exports increased 11.6 percent to 179.3 million pounds.

Mexico was the leading destination for U.S. exports at 8.9 million pounds, followed by Canada at 6.8 million pounds, South Korea at 1.6 million pounds, China at 1.1 million pounds and Germany at 505,114 pounds.

Imports from Germany totaled 10.1 million pounds, followed by South Korea at 4.2 million pounds, Mexico at 3.9 million pounds, Vietnam at 3.1 million pounds and Canada at 3.1 million pounds.

Imports of all sheet, strip, plate and foil products totaled 14.9 million pounds, while exports totaled 9.4 million pounds. Imports of pipe and tube products totaled 14.7 million pounds, while exports totaled 4.1 million pounds. Imports of all profiles, rods and bars totaled 9.3 million pounds, while exports totaled 7.3 million pounds.
