Steel Shipments Up 5.1 Percent in August

U.S. steel mills shipped 7.9 million net tons of steel for the month of August, reported the American Iron and Steel Institute, Washington, D.C. August steel shipments were up 6.0 percent from July and 5.1 percent from August 2016.

Shipments of hot-dipped galvanized sheets and strip were up 8.0 percent from July, hot-rolled sheets were up 5.0 percent and cold-rolled sheets were up 3.0 percent from the month prior.

Through August, the U.S. has shipped 60.9 million net tons of steel so far this year, a 3.1 percent increase over the first eight months of 2016.
