Kloeckner's Partalis is MCN's Executive of the Year

Kloeckner's outgoing CEO Bill Partalis has been named the recipient of the Metal Center News Executive of the Year honor. Partalis becomes the 21st recipient of the award, the highest in the metals distribution business.

Partalis entered the metals business in the early 1970s, starting at Detroit’s Kasle Steel while still enrolled in college. He soon joined the fledgling Beal Steel, which was soon acquired by German company Kloeckner looking to get a foothold in the United States metal distribution sector.

Partalis moved up through the ranks at the former Namasco, which grew to become one of the Top 10 service center companies in North America. He was named the company CEO in 2002, and oversaw the 2011 merger of Nama with Macsteel, a combination of billion-dollar service centers that became Kloeckner Metals. Today, Kloeckner is the fourth-largest service center company in North America, with more than 40 facilities and 2016 revenues of $2.6 billion.

Even with retirement looming at year’s end, Partalis hasn’t been coasting. He has been leading the company’s, and the industry’s, entry into the world of digitization.
