Brass Mill Imports, Exports Increase in September

U.S. imports and exports of brass mill products increased in September, compared with the corresponding 2016 period, reports the Copper and Brass Fabricators Council. Imports jumped 27 percent year over year to 40.9 million pounds, while exports increased 3.6 percent to 21.2 million pounds.

Year to date, imports of brass mill products totaled 373 million pounds, an increase of 8 percent over the first nine of 2016. Total exports increased 11 percent to 200.5 million pounds.

Mexico was the leading destination for U.S. exports of brass mill products at 8.5 million pounds, followed by Canada at 5.8 million pounds, China at 1.2 million pounds, South Korea at 995,134 pounds and Germany at 596,205 pounds.

Imports from Germany totaled 10.2 million pounds in September, followed by South Korea at 4.3 million pounds, Canada at 3.5 million pounds, Vietnam at 3.5 million pounds and Mexico at 3.4 million pounds.

Imports of all sheet, strip, plate and foil products totaled 14.5 million pounds, while exports totaled 9.5 million pounds. Imports of pipe and tube products totaled 14.3 million pounds, while exports of those products totaled 3.2 million pounds. Imports of all profiles, rods and bars totaled 8.8 million pounds, while exports totaled 6.7 million pounds.
