September Steel Shipments Up 11.7 Percent

U.S. steel mills shipped 7.6 million net tons of steel in the month of September, reports the American Iron and Steel Institute. September steel shipments were down 4.7 percent from August, but up 11.7 percent from September 2016.

Shipments of cold-rolled sheets were up 5 percent from August, while shipments of both hot-rolled sheets and hot-dipped galvanized sheets and strip were each down 9 percent.

Through September, the U.S. has shipped 68.4 million net tons of steel this year, a 4 percent increase over the first nine months of 2016.
