Hedges Retiring, Reid Promoted at Russel

John Reid will succeed Brian Hedges as CEO of Russel Metals, Mississauga, Ontario. The change is effective May 2, 2018, when Hedges will retire.

Reid began his career with JMS Metals Services in 1991, and was promoted to president in 1994. He joined Russel when JMS was acquired by Russel in 2007, and has moved up through the organization. He was appointed president in 2016.

Hedges joined Russel as CFO in 1994, and became CEO in 2009.

"The board has been working with Brian and John to carefully plan this succession for several years. John Reid has an impressive track record with 26 years of industry experience as an entrepreneur, a manager and a leader. John has partnered with Brian in all key initiatives over the past ten years, and we believe John is uniquely qualified to assume the CEO responsibilities,” says Jim Dinning, chairman of the Russel board.

Hedges will be nominated to remain on the Russel board after his retirement. Russel Metals is North America’s ninth-largest service center company.
