Winkle Scrap Magnets Offered in Two Model Ranges
Winkle Industries, Alliance, Ohio, has introduced a new lineup of lightweight scrap magnets developed with the latest version of the company’s proprietary computer modeling software. Winkle’s OptiMag L-Series lifting magnets for scrap recycling now include two model ranges, the LDSA magnets, updated from the previous LSA standard, and a new ELDSA line created specifically for smaller hydraulic scrap handling machines. The new L-Series models offer increased lifting capacity with lighter weight magnets.

The LDSA and ELDSA types are both recommended for fixed and mixed loads in general duty scrap handling applications, providing a large lifting surface and reduced total weight to best utilize the crane’s load-lifting capacity. The lightweight LDSA and extra-light ELDSA models typically provide a weight savings of 4 percent to as much as 14 percent over comparable competitive magnets and come complete with heavy-duty mechanical features and deep-field coils, the company claims.

The standard line includes models ranging from 30 inches to 72 inches in diameter. LDSA magnets range in weight from 1,025 to 7,750 pounds, with lifting capacity from 625 to 5,625 pounds. ELDSA magnets begin at 895 pounds, lifting up to 575 pounds, and range up to the 72-inch 7,500-pound unit able to lift up to 5,550 pounds.

Ball Screw Lift Table Designed for Automation
EnKon Systems, Walled Lake, Mich., has introduced a new electric ball screw lift table for automation and robotic applications that require maximum control. Control features such as long-standing static load positioning, accurate repeatability and speed directed by Variable Frequency Drives provide any facility with the power needed to improve their operation, EnKon claims.

The lift system can easily integrate with robotics, conveyors, machines and any other automated system. Precision control capability is plus/minus 0.03 inch. The electric ball screw lift system, compatible with alternating current AC or direct current DC motors, is capable of lifting up to 50,000 pounds. Captured wheel guides prevent the lift’s platforms from tipping, and a catch nut system prevents the lift from falling in the event the load-bearing nut fails. Kardex’s Megamat RS Carousel Cuts Energy Costs
Kardex Remstar, Westbrook, Maine, has introduced the new Megamat RS Vertical Carousel, which offers reduced lifecycle costs, an improved structure with interchangeable carriers and multiple control, the company claims.

Through the combination of drive motor, high-efficiency transmission and precision calibrated frequency converter, the Kardex Remstar Megamat RS vertical carousel requires 40 percent less energy. With an improved modular structure and the use of efficient components, the new carousel provides a 50 percent reduction in overall unit weight. Further, an automatic chain tensioning system reduces stretching and wear on the load chain, resulting in a more reliable system requiring less maintenance.

Hyster’s Electric Lift Trucks Reduce Maintenance Costs
Hyster Co., Greenville, S.C., has unveiled its next generation of electric lift trucks. The new Hyster E30-40XN series delivers lifting capacities of 3,000 to 4,000 pounds and offers significant performance and versatility for a wide variety of material-handling applications, the company claims

The E30-40XN series offers newly designed operator compartments, 16 percent more floor space, relocated multifunction displays that ensure enhanced visibility and precise pallet control, improved brake pedal layout, an Auto Deceleration System to reduce operator fatigue, and a steel hood providing maximum battery service access.

By utilizing AC motors and transistor controller technology for both the traction and hydraulic systems, Hyster says it has reduced the frequency and cost of maintenance. The Hyster-designed thermal management system continuously monitors the E30-40XN series’ controller and motor temperature and protects the component by automatically adjusting truck performance.

Semi-Gantry Cranes Designed for Plate Leveling Application
G.W. Becker Inc, Hermitage, Pa., a manufacturer of overhead cranes, recently commissioned two new semi-automated, 1-ton capacity, double-girder semi-gantry cranes with dual hook drops. The project included the turnkey design, manufacturing, installation and start-up of the cranes, runways and vacuum lifters.

The heavy-duty units are utilized in a plate leveling application for a specialty metal company. The cranes are equipped with a pair of drums with a common drive system on a single trolley used to un-stack and stack plate from pallets. The large hook centers allow for increased stability when handling longer pieces of product. 

The set-up and initiation of the semi-automated routines of both cranes are controlled from a single remote podium with touch screen. The color screen displays real-time status feedback and fault codes. The system also includes one engineered radio control system that will operate both cranes from a single transmitter on a back-up basis. The new semi-gantry cranes have allowed for ergonomic improvement, cutting down on work-related injuries by removing the need for physical contact with the plate by the operators.

Double-Reinforced Arm Protects Vertical Carousel
The new Avenger Vertical Carousel arm design from Sapient Automation, Doylestown, Pa., eliminates the primary failure point on carousel arms, the company claims. The Avenger uses a double reinforced arm and forging assembly that attaches to the chain singularly to avoid critical cascading failures that can destroy multiple carriers with one incident. This improved design helps Sapient offer up to a 10-year warranty on some models

Instead of using a single scissor arm design, the Avenger carousel’s scissor arms are double reinforced. Likewise, instead of using a pin to attach the arms to the rollers in the guide track the Avenger uses a forging.
