Idro Water Jet Machine Available in Three Sizes
Water jet manufacturer Jet Edge Inc., St. Michael, Minn., has introduced the Idro 5-axis precision water jet cutting machine. Capable of cutting virtually any material, the Idro line is available in three sizes, 5.5 by 6.5 feet, 5.5 by 13 feet and 6.5 by 13 feet nominal.
It features the IKC 5-axis water jet cutting head, said to be capable of making inclined cuts and controlling kerf to ensure optimal part quality. The IKC’s capabilities include 600-degree rotation, a maximum angle of plus/minus 60 degrees, and dynamic precision from plus/minus 0.2 to 0.5 millimeters per minute, depending on the tilt of the head.
The Idro line’s high precision ground rack-and-pinion X and Y axes and ball screw-driven 5.9-inch Z axis make it one of the most accurate water jet systems available, Jet Edge claims. It maintains a cutting tolerance of plus/minus 0.004 inch with a repeatability accuracy tolerance of plus/minus 0.001 inch. It also supports a contouring and rapid feed rate of up to 1,575 inches per minute.

Red Bud Introduces Automated Coil Prestage, Load System
Red Bud Industries, Red Bud, Ill., has introduced a fully automated Coil Prestage & Load System for its heavy-gauge coil processing lines. The system automatically advances prestaged coils and loads them onto a dual stub uncoiler.
The advanced system is comprised of an inline coil prestaging system, integrated coil car and dual stub arbor uncoiler. These components operate in concert to eliminate the need for operator attention or intervention when loading coils.
With the push of one button, the Coil Prestage & Load System’s integrated coil car retrieves the coil to be processed. The system then measures the outside and inside diameters of the coil. After measuring, the coil car will automatically position and raise the coil as required for loading onto the line’s uncoiler. The dual mandrel uncoiler will then spear the coil and center it automatically on the line. This sequence of events takes place unattended by the line’s operator.
The Coil Prestage & Load System can also incorporate a coil reject station. Unlike traditional inline coil prestaging systems that have no means of their own to change the sequence in which coils are to be processed, this supplementary coil staging area allows the process order of the coils to be changed when required, Red Bud claims.

The new Fiber Laser HFL015 system from Hypertherm, Hanover, N.H., has been designed so all of the components are engineered to work together as one complete cutting system. Hypertherm’s system includes the power source, cutting head, gas supply, operator interface consoles, motion controls and software. Scotchman Introduces 65-Ton Ironworker
Scotchman Industries, Philip, S.D., designed its Model 6509-24M 65-ton hydraulic ironworker for versatility and flexibility. The company claims the machine offers the largest flat-bar shear capacity (1 inch by 6 inches, ½-inch by 12 inches and ¼-inch by 24 inches) and the largest angle shear capacity (5 inches by 5 inches by ½-inch) for a 65-ton machine.

Heck’s Deburring Tool Applicable on All Materials
Heck Industries, Hartland, Mich., offers the TURBO-BURR air turbine deburring tool. The tool uses a standard carbide burr rotating at 55,000 rpm to quickly and accurately deburr or chamfer straight-edged parts. One pass deburring and safety edging up to 10 feet per minute is possible, the company claims.

RBI Offers Rotating Brush Dust Collection System
Red Bud Industries, Red Bud, Ill., has introduced a new Rotating Brush Dust Collection System designed to remove both scale and hot-roll dust from the surface of the strip as it is processed in a coil line.
Other systems rely on vacuum power alone to remove debris from material, but the magnetic attraction with the metal’s surface leaves dust clinging behind. To improve the cleaning process, Red Bud developed a combination rotating brush and vacuum system that utilizes a pair of non-marking upper and lower rotating brushes in concert with a vacuum to agitate the surface of the material and remove a much larger amount of dust and debris from both sides of the strip. To increase brush life, the upper and lower brushes alternately move from side to side as they rotate so the brush wears more evenly. The unit is available on new lines and can also be retrofitted onto existing lines.

Bushman’s Coil Grab Handles Densely Packed Slit Coils
Bushman AvonTec, Milwaukee, Wis., has developed a coil grab designed to easily handle densely packed slit coils. The adjustable coil lifter has flexible lifting legs that fit between the coils and rotate into the ID for a safe lift. The hooks are adjustable in two-inch increments to permit handling coils of varying thickness.
To remove a coil, the hooks are lowered with the feet parallel to the coils. Once the feet are in the ID of the coil, they are turned 90 degrees so they can lift the coil without damaging it or neighboring coils. The device can remove thin slit steel coils down to 1-inch wide from a storage rack with as little as 1 ½ inches of space between them.

Messer’s FiberBlade Compatible with Plasma
Messer Cutting Systems, Menomonee Falls, Wis., now offers its Metal Master Plus machine with FiberBlade technology. The fiber laser works with continuous glass fibers with no deflecting mirrors or gas purging, which allows it to be used in conjunction with plasma. The machine can be equipped with one plasma and one fiber cutter or two plasma and two fiber laser heads. Parts can be cut with both or just laser or plasma for maximum part accuracy and flexibility. Fiber offers a cut part accuracy of plus/minus 0.005 and plasma plus/minus 0.020 over a 72-inch area.
The fiber laser is said to be three times more efficient than a C02 laser, making its 1,200-watt cutting power comparable to a 2,000-watt C02 laser. There are no moving parts in the laser resonator itself, and the emitter diodes have an operating life of over 50,000 hours, making for low maintenance and service costs. TRUMPF TruLaser 3030 Cuts Processing Time
TRUMPF Inc., Farmington, Conn., offers the TruLaser 3030 single-head laser with up to 6 kilowatts of laser power suitable for cutting sheet up to 1-inch thick. The machine’s long X axis works with a maintenance-free gearless torque motor, while Y and Z axes are driven by oil-free linear motors, said to increase the simultaneous axis speeds from 3,346 to 5,512 ipm.
The FastLine process, now a standard feature, generates a flow transition between the piercing and cutting processes, which reduces processing times by an average of 20 percent in thin sheet. The unit can cut more parts per hour, with less energy usage, the company claims.
