Max Aicher Restarting Hamilton Bar Mill

Max Aicher has restarted its reheat furnaces and is completing test runs at its Hamilton, Ont., bar and bloom mills. The German company acquired the idled facilities from U.S. Steel in November.

The acquisition of the company was the first in North America for Max Aicher. The facility will operate under the name Max Aicher North America or MANA.

Thomas Fetzer, president of Max Aicher, says the new mills will concentrate almost exclusively on the value-added end of the market, focusing on steel production for auto and mining machine parts, and the construction industry.

Dave Cameron is serving as chief financial officer for the North American operation. He says the company intends to be an anchor company in Ontario, with designs on becoming a Fortune 500 Canada company within five years.
