Brass Mill Imports, Exports on the Rise

U.S. imports and exports of brass mill products rose in May compared to May 2009. Imports of brass mill products totaled 39,295,877 pounds in May, compared to 35,348,294 in May 2009, an increase of 11.2 percent. Exports totaled 19,784,365 pounds, up from 16,120,361 last May, a 22.7 percent increase.

Canada was the leading destination for U.S. exports of brass mill products in May at 6,670,732 pounds, followed by Mexico at 5,822,069 pounds, China at 1,636,265 pounds, Germany at 578,868 pounds and Taiwan at 537,303 pounds.

Imports from Germany in May totaled 8,076,091 pounds, followed by Mexico at 7,061,459 pounds, China at 3,887,839 pounds, South Korea at 3,829,412 pounds and Canada at 3,125,422 pounds.

Imports of all sheet, strip, plate and foil products totaled 13,101,345 pounds, while exports of those products totaled 7,453,448 pounds.

Imports of all pipe and tube products totaled 13,717,608 pounds, while pipe and tube exports totaled 5,504,955 pounds.

Imports of all profiles, rods and bars totaled 9,818,230 pounds, while exports totaled 4,357,541 pounds. Imports of copper alloy wire totaled 2,658,695 pounds, while exports totaled 2,468,420 pounds.
