Brass Mill Imports Up 19.8% in July
U.S. imports of brass mill products rose while exports fell in July compared with the corresponding 2009 period. Imports of brass mill products in July totaled 43,225,901 pounds compared to 36,068,643 in the same month last year, an increase of 19.8 percent, according to the Copper and Brass Fabricator’s Council, Washington, D.C.
Exports totaled 18,556,835 pounds in July 2010, down from 18,596,288 in July 2009, a 0.2 percent decrease. Canada was the leading destination for U.S. exports of brass mill products in July at 5,999,665 pounds, followed by Mexico at 5,641,007 pounds, China at 1,660,150 pounds, Hong Kong at 581,648 pounds and Taiwan at 414,937 pounds.
Imports from Germany in July 2010 totaled 8,642,896 pounds, followed by Mexico at 6,671,975 pounds, China at 5,055,551 pounds, South Korea at 3,758,129 pounds and Canada at 2,942,682 pounds.
Imports of all sheet, strip, plate and foil products totaled 13,013,284 pounds, while exports of those products totaled 7,874,368 pounds. Imports of all pipe and tube products totaled 16,671,723 pounds, while pipe and tube exports totaled 4,501,123 pounds.
Imports of all profiles, rods and bars totaled 10,359,122 pounds, while exports totaled 4,243,744 pounds. Imports of copper alloy wire totaled 3,181,771 pounds, while exports totaled 1,937,599 pounds.
