Republic, Grupo Simec Expand
Republic Engineered Products has acquired two facilities from BCS Industries Inc. The Canton, Ohio-based steelmaker has acquired a heat treatment facility in Cleveland and a cold-drawn steel bar processor in Memphis, Tenn. Company officials say the acquisitions enhance and complement Republic’s production of SBQ products.
Two other facilities owned by Republic’s parent company, Mexico City-based Grupo Simec, have completed melt shop expansion programs at two Mexican facilities. Capacity at the company’s San Luis Potosi facility has been increased to one million tons of billet for the production of rod, wire and derivatives. Capacity at the Apizaco, Tlaxcala, operation has been increased to 500,000 tons of billet, allowing the company’s mills to become self-sufficient. With the developments, Grupo Simec has more than five million tons of steelmaking capacity at its plants.
