Metals USA to Open Facility at Lakeside’s Alabama Site

Metals USA, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., has entered a four-year agreement with Canada’s Lakeside Steel to provide slitting and warehousing services in support of the steelmaker’s new steel pipe and casing mill in Thomasville, Ala. As part of the agreement, Metals USA will construct a modern rail-serviced slitting and warehousing facility adjacent to Lakeside's pipe mill. The adjacent facilities will promote efficiencies for both parties.

"Lakeside is a respected manufacturer of pipe and tube products for oil country tubular goods, and we are pleased to partner with them in this mutually beneficial way,” says Lourenço Gonçalves, Metals USA chairman, president and CEO. “The addition of a new Metals USA service center in Alabama represents another aspect of our growth strategy."

Lakeside’s new mill will be capable of producing API-grade oil well casing in sizes ranging from 4.5 inches to 9.625 inches OD and API-grade line pipe in sizes ranging from 4.5 inches to 10.75 inches OD. The facility is expected to be operational by the end of October.
