Eriez Demonstrates SafeHold Magnet on Website
Eriez, Erie, Pa., has released its new SafeHold APL Lifting Magnet demonstration video that demonstrates how the SafeHold APL operates on a three-stroke cycle. The video can be viewed at Eriez’s website at www.eriez.com.
According to the video, the APL magnet is ideal for hard-to-reach areas such as burn tables. Since operators using the APL do not have to bend and reach for handles as they do when using manual magnets, the risk of injury is reduced.
The SafeHold APL Lifting Magnet requires no electricity, requiring no D.C. power supply or battery to recharge.

Eriez Offers Method for Removing Ferrous Pieces
The Chip and Parts Conveyors from Eriez, Erie, Pa., provide a practically maintenance-free method for moving and elevating ferrous materials such as chips, turnings, small parts and stampings. With the exception of an externally mounted drive motor, the unit is self-contained and the conveyor mechanism is completely enclosed. There are no moving external parts to jam, break or endanger personnel.
Eriez conveyors use a continuous series of powerful ceramic magnets to pick up and glide materials along the stainless steel slider plate. Material is then discharged over the head end. Because of their liquid-tight construction, lower conveyor sections can be completely submerged in coolant sumps or tanks. The working face is self-cleaning, and excess fluids drain easily back into the tank.
For more information, call Eriez at 888-300-3743 or visit www.eriez.com. (2007)
Magnets Lift Flat or Round Material
Eriez, Erie, Pa., has introduced the XPL SafeHold Permanent Lifting Magnets to allow users to lift either round or flat materials using the same magnet. Constructed with Erium 3000 rare earth material, the four magnets in the SafeHold line are small, lightweight and are said to feature a powerful magnetic force. The two-pole design lifts flat materials up to 2,400 pounds and round materials up to 1,600 pounds.
The magnets can lift and transfer steel and iron without slings, hooks or cables, requiring fewer helpers. Several SafeHold magnets can be combined to conform to the specific shape and weight of complex work pieces. Additionally, Eriez claims XPL magnets provide greater safety than other mechanical material devices when properly installed.
With their internal on-off changeover mechanism, the magnets will not scratch the work surface when loading/unloading, Eriez says.

New Remote Control Transmitter
for Industrial Crane Applications
Cattron Group International, Sharpsville, Pa., has unveiled its newest controller/transmitter, the T34C, for use in industrial crane applications in North and South America. The T34C has a special shape and style that provide the equipment operator with a controller that is durable and easy to operate. This lightweight “Belly Box” style controller is designed for indoor and limited outdoor overhead crane remote control applications in most industrial environments. The T34C can be used with most licensed Cattron AT Series or MP Series receiver/decoder units. It can also be used with most existing Cattron systems as either a replacement or spare controller. Machined from aircraft-quality 6061 billet aluminum, the handle for each lever on the T34C is a different geometric shape, making it easier for the operator to distinguish between control levers without looking down. T34C controllers can be configured with up to six control levers and customized with additional pushbuttons and toggle switches.

Trumpf Adds Hydraulic Transport Carts to Laser Cutter
Trumpf, Farmington, Conn., has designed a new hydraulic transport cart for loading or unloading different material types and thicknesses onto its TC L 2510 laser-cutting machine. Different stations of the laser cutter, each with an individual capacity of 6,600 pounds, can be loaded with a variety of material sizes up to 4 x 10 feet. The pallets are transferred to the machine and accessed by the integrated sheet-loading system of the TC L 2510. The pedestal system is integrated with the machine and works directly from the machine control. A production-planner screen on the control is used to define the sequence of jobs to be run. Additional carts and pedestals can be added to the loading or unloading side of the machine.

New Magnets Lift Heavier Loads
Eriez Magnetics, Erie, Pa., adds two new magnets to its SafeHold permanent lifting magnet line. The RPL-35 can lift up to 3,500 pounds of flat materials and 1,750 pounds of round materials. The RPL-70 lifts up to 7,000 pounds of flat materials and 3,500 pounds of round materials. Operators can lift both round and flat materials with the same magnet. The SafeHold RPL Series permanent lifting magnets do not require a power supply. An internal on/off changeover mechanism eliminates scratches on the work surface when loading or unloading, the company says. Additionally, several RPL magnets can be combined to conform to a specific shape and weight of complex work pieces.

Low-Profile Conveyors Fit in Tight Quarters
The 125 Series line of conveyors from QC Industries, Cincinnati, Ohio, feature a very low profile (1.89 inches), allowing these conveyors to be used in tight quarters where conventional conveyors will not fit. Belt widths of 2 inches to 24 inches are available, in lengths from 4 feet to 12 feet, with load carrying capacity of up to 450 pounds.
A snap-in, sealed-tail assembly allows belts to be changed in less than 5 minutes (regardless of belt length or width) using standard hand tools and without re-tracking the belt. Permanent belt tensioning is said to ensure a long service life for belts and bearings while moving the heaviest loads in low-profile conveyors, with no tension adjustment necessary. Lubrication of drive elements is achieved with zero downtime. These features make 125 Series low-profile conveyors suitable for use in stamping and metalworking applications, as well as in packaging lines, distribution centers, precision manufacturing environments and more.
A wide variety of accessories, including sides, guides, mounts, stands, drive packages and controls allow the 125 Series conveyors to be adapted to many applications. Bunting Conveyors Fit in Tight Spaces
Bunting Magnetics Co., Newton, Kan., manufactures a line of compact Low-Profile and Special-Purpose Conveyors that fit where other conveyors cannot. These space-saving conveyors are designed to reach into, and operate in, confined spaces around production machinery. Standard models are magnetic to provide continuous control of small-to-medium size ferrous parts and scrap even on inclines. Both magnetic and nonmagnetic models reduce labor costs, minimize downtime and increase productivity, the company says.
Standard Low-Profile Conveyors require less than a 2-inch clearance and are built to withstand the day-to-day punishment of punch press and automated applications. Heavy-duty models are designed for extra-heavy loads, high belt speeds and applications with heavily oiled materials. Additionally, the Bunting quick-change belt design minimizes downtime for belt replacements and allows for easy on-line tension and tracking adjustments.
Bunting Medium-Frame Conveyors also take up less space than conventional units. Their standard frames measure just 3.5 inches high and are only 2.75 inches wider than their belts, which range from 2 to 36 inches in width. They offer a selection of frame lengths, magnetic elements, drive motors, and height and incline adjustments as well as optional portability.
