April Steel Shipments Up 5 Percent

U.S. steel mills shipped 7.8 million net tons of steel in April, reported the American Iron and Steel Institute, Washington. Steel shipments for the month were down 6 percent from March and up 5 percent from April 2017.
Shipments of hot-rolled sheets, hot-dipped galvanized sheets and strip, and cold-rolled sheets decreased 6 percent from March.
Through April, the U.S. has shipped 31.3 million net tons of steel, a 4 percent increase over the first four months of 2017.
