August Brass Mill Imports Up, Exports Down

U.S. imports of brass mill products increased year over year in August, while exports decreased, reports the Copper and Brass Fabricators Council, Washington. Imports totaled 47.2 million pounds in August, an 11 percent increase. Exports for the month dropped 1.3 percent year over year to 22.8 million pounds.
For the year to date, imports of brass mill products totaled 353.8 million pounds, a 6.5 percent increase. Exports through the first eight months of 2018 were down 2.3 percent to 179.3 million pounds.
Mexico was the leading destination for U.S. exports of brass mill products in August at 8.6 million pounds, followed by Canada at 8 million pounds, China at 829,712 pounds, South Korea at 648,754 pounds and Germany at 500,898 pounds.
Imports from Germany in August totaled 12.4 million pounds, followed by Mexico at 4.5 million pounds, Vietnam at 3.5 million pounds, South Korea at 3.5 million pounds and Brazil at 2.8 million pounds.
Imports of all sheet, strip, plate and foil products totaled 18.4 million pounds in August, while exports of those products totaled 9.4 million pounds. Imports of all pipe and tube products totaled 15 million pounds, while pipe and tube exports totaled 4.4 million pounds. Imports of all profiles, rods and bars totaled 10.3 million pounds, while exports totaled 7.4 million pounds.
