Brass Mill Imports, Exports Increase in April

U.S. imports and exports of brass mill products increased in April compared with the corresponding 2017 period, reports the Copper and Brass Fabricators Council, Washington. Imports totaled 44.8 million pounds in April, an 8.2 percent increase. Exports climbed 18 percent to 19.9 million pounds.
For the year to date, imports of brass mill products totaled 162.8 million pounds, a 5 percent increase. Exports were also up 5 percent to 86.7 million pounds.
Mexico was the leading destination for U.S. exports of brass mill products in April at 8.6 million pounds followed by Canada at 7.0 million pounds, Saudi Arabia at 1.5 million pounds, China at 1.0 million pounds and South Korea at 697,906 pounds.
Imports from Germany in April totaled 11.1 million pounds, followed by Mexico at 4.5 million pounds, South Korea at 4.2 million pounds, Canada at 3.3 million pounds and Vietnam at 3.0 million pounds.
Imports of all sheet, strip, plate and foil products totaled 16.0 million pounds, while exports of those products totaled 9.1 million pounds. Imports of all pipe and tube products totaled 14.3 million pounds while pipe and tube exports totaled 5.2 million pounds. Imports of all profiles, rods and bars totaled 10.9 million pounds, while exports totaled 7.1 million pounds.
