Steel Shipments Up 5 Percent in May

U.S. steel mills shipped 8.1 million net tons of steel in May, reported the American Iron and Steel Institute, Washington. Steel shipments for the month were up 3.3 percent from April and 5.2 percent from May 2017.
Shipments of hot-rolled sheets were up 6 percent from April, while hot-dipped galvanized sheets and strip were up 3 percent. There was no change in cold-rolled sheets.
Through May, the U.S. has shipped 39.3 million net tons of steel, a 4.2 percent increase over the first five months of 2017.
